February 29, 2016
The 2016 Academy Awards Ceremony saw an inspirational move from Leonardo DiCaprio, after the actor deservedly walked away with the Oscar for Best Actor for his leading role in the film "The Revenant". Leonardo, a well-known UN representative of climate change, certainly inspired many with the contents of his acceptance speech.
Knowing very well that the eyes of the media world, along with millions of interested viewers, were intently focused on his acceptance speech, the actor used the opportunity as a platform to stress the realities of climate change, and our responsibilty toward the planet. After working tirelessly for well over two decades to win the prestigious award, the very fact that he dedicated his golden moment to discuss the critical implications of our human impact on the earth was both eloquent and deeply stirring. The gravity of his final quote, "Let us not take this planet for granted; I do not take tonight for granted", was a fitting end to his moving speech. The decisiveness of his chosen words, and the depth of his convictions will undoubtedly resonate with millions of people around the world, and hopefully bring to light a greater awareness and trasnformation in the minds and actions of millions.
